An ideal spot throughout the year

The Dordogne has a fantastic climate throughout the year. By March, the weather is warming up and consistently goes through until end of October/November. Les Roches is ideal throughout the shoulder months with the heat pump in the pool allowing swimming all the way into November, moreover, the south-facing enclosed and sheltered terrace makes for a fantastic sun trap. An added bonus is the sauna which really comes into it's own as the weather cools slightly. The Autumn and Spring are fantastic times to visit the area, the scenery is always changing. For example, the poppies are stunning in May and in September the fields are a hive of avtivity with the grape harvest.

Stunning poppies spring up in May - so many one suspects the farmers are up to something! The windmill is surrounded by oil seed rape - a lovely sight in spring.

In addition, we are lucky to be in area that is open all year round......places such as Sarlat become overun with tourists and holiday home owners in the Summer but then in September everything starts to shut up. We have markets daily every week of the year, the restaurants and pubs stay open and french life continues, possibly at a slightly slower pace than in the Summer but still as interesting and fun.

Thinking of a winter let??

Whilst we enjoy fabulous weather year round, December and January can have particularly cold snaps. Even then, days tend to be clear and bright (it is common to eat Christmas lunch outside). Central heating and double galzing is a must. Les Roches is available over the winter at reduced rates for a long term let.

Oh yes - it does get very cold in the Dordogne in the middle of winter. Hurrah for four wheel drive in winter - not to mention central heating and double glazing!
