Lakes and Beaches
Although inland, there are plenty of places to sit on a beach close by. If you want to travel further afield or are interested in surfing, Arcachon is a must to visit, with miles and miles of stunning beaches.
Lakes
Within a short drive of Les Roches, about 15 minutes, there are several lake leisure parks. Close to Duras, is Lac de Castelgaillard. Here there are activities to suit everyone. There are sandy beaches, swimming, watersports, slides, cafes and picnic sites. There are also lakes at Pomport-Sigoules and Miramont, both again with beaches and watersports and well worth a visit. All the lakes have interesting walks in their park land.
Archachon Beaches
Archachon is west of Bordeaux, about an hour and half away. That area has two hundred and fifty kilometres of fine sandy beaches and the 105-metre high Great Dune of Pyla. The dune has been classified since 1978 as a Major National Site, and is a example of nature at its best. The Atlantic coastline provides some interesting water conditions for the swimmer, body boarder and surfer.
